How do I teach my AI agent about my business and its FAQs?
The agent only knows what is in its prompt about your business. If the prompt says nothing about it, it cannot answer questions about it, and it may use a generic placeholder company name.
The AI is trained on practically the whole internet, so you do not need to teach it general industry knowledge, such as how to sell or the difference between granite and linoleum for a flooring business. It only needs the specifics about your business: company name, phone number, website, hours, how long you have been in business, pricing, and which services you do and do not offer. That is a small amount of information.
There are two ways to add it.
- The system prompt (recommended). Open the agent and click the prompt builder icon on the left side. Add your company name, a section about the business, and FAQs and facts near the bottom of the prompt. When the agent was created from a website, the prompt builder shows the facts and FAQs generated from the site, and you can expand them. You can paste text from your website; it does not need to be formatted and you do not need images.
- The knowledge base, where you can load the business's whole website with all its pages.
The prompt usually works better, because most business websites hold articles written for SEO with little real business information, which the AI already knows. Typing the real questions and answers yourself, or having the AI generate them, gives better answers, and if the AI says something odd you can find and fix the answer in the prompt instead of hunting through a hundred page website. As you learn what callers ask that the AI could not answer, keep adding it to the prompt.
You can test the agent in voice mode or chat mode at any time.
